Gene Collier writes sports columns three or four times a week, serving at the pleasure of Assistant Managing Editor/Sports Jerry Micco, who rescued him from the self-imposed wilderness of political commentary and feature writing in the spring of 2004.

Prior to that, Collier had been a sports columnist for the Post-Gazette, the long-dead Pittsburgh Press, and the long-dead Philadelphia Journal, where he began as a beat writer covering Major League Baseball.

He has a journalism degree from Penn State.
