Ray Lang, 25, of Moon Township, and Nicole Buzzelli, 25, of Shaler Township, wed on October 25, 2008 at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in the North Hills. Their advice to other couples who are getting married is that, "planning a wedding can be very stressful, but in the end, it's worth it." They now reside in Glenshaw.
Q: How did you meet?
Nicole: We met at Tequila Willies, in the Strip District, on April 29, 2006. We both had gone there with different friends. I saw Ray, grabbed his hand and told him in my own polite, yet sudden way, that he was going to the dance floor with me because I wanted someone to dance with. That is how we met. We danced until the club closed. We had such a great time that we went to Eat n' Park together with our friends and had breakfast.
Q: Where did you each grow up?
Nicole: I grew up in Shaler Township. Ray grew up in Moon Township.
Q: Where were you married? Why did you choose that site?
Nicole: We were married at Saint Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in the North Hills. We had it there because it was close to where I had grown up. Ray is Baptist and his grandfather, who is a Baptist minister, helped with the services.
Q: Where was the reception and honeymoon? Why did you choose those sites?
Nicole: The reception was at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Coraopolis. We chose that site because it was close to where Ray had grown up.
We honeymooned in Niagara Falls. Ray had never been out of the United States and I wanted to go to a winery, so that is why we went there.
Q: What was new, blue, borrowed at your wedding?
Nicole: My jewelry, dress and shoes were new. The "something blue" was a colon cancer ribbon pin that I wore in remembrance of my grandfather. My mother also made me wear a blue garter. I wore my grandmother's angel pin as "something old" and borrowed a pair of earrings from my mother.
Q: What was the funniest thing that happened?
Nicole: There were many funny things that happened on our wedding day. One of the funniest moments occurred during the church ceremony when it was time for me to give flowers to the Virgin Mary. My maid of honor was supposed to fix my dress while I walked over to give the flowers and then fix it again when I came back to kneel. She ended up holding the silk part of the dress up to the middle of my back and showing all the underneath layers to everyone in the church the whole time that I walked over and back. We have pictures and a video of it. It was hilarious, not so much at the time, but definitely after the fact.
Q: Who was your favorite wedding vendor? Why?
Nicole: We really liked working with our wedding planner, Jennifer Roberts, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. She was patient and always available to answer our questions and address any concerns. She went above and beyond to make everything perfect for us. She took a lot of stress away from us, making it easier for us to focus on other things.
Q: What's the most creative wedding present that you were given?
Nicole: My mother made us a ring bearer pillow that honored all of the people that have passed away in each of our families. This meant a lot to Ray and me. She cross-stitched the wording on it and put a charm on the pillow for each loved one that we had lost. We put it on display at the reception for everyone to see. We also included a letter that she had written describing why she picked each charm.
Q: What's the best marriage advice you received?
Nicole: Never go to bed angry and always say "I love you" before going to sleep.
