Two men were killed and a third person was seriously injured early today in separate crashes in Indiana County -- one at the scene of an another fatal crash earlier this week, authorities said.
Coroner Michael Baker said Jeffrey J. Weber Jr., 25, of Indiana, died when the motorcycle he was operating collided head-on with a car at the intersection of Route 286 and Zehner Road in White. Mr. Weber was traveling east on Route 286 at a high speed, did not negotiate a curve and crashed into a westbound car at 12:51 a.m., Mr. Baker said.
Mr. Weber and a woman passenger on the motorcycle, who has not been identified, were thrown onto the road. Mr. Weber, who suffered head injuries, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, who initially was taken to Indiana Regional Medical Center, is in critical condition at a Pittsburgh hospital, Mr. Baker said.
State police said three people who were in the car were not seriously hurt.
Also killed this morning was Jeffrey Lynn Fox, 39, of Seward, in a crash on Route 22 near the intersection with Route 403 in East Wheatfield, where the driver of a tractor-trailor truck hauling bananas also crashed and died Wednesday. Mr. Fox was driving a westbound car at 1:45 a.m. when he struck three directional pylons that remained on the north side of the highway where a guard rail was damaged in the earlier crash, troopers said.
Mr. Fox's car spun off the road, went over an embankment and rolled end over end several times before landing on Killen Road, troopers said. Mr. Fox, who was thrown from the car, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:01 a.m., Mr. Baker said.
Troopers are investigating both crashes. Toxicology tests are pending.
