Police with the North Hills DUI Task Force arrested seven people for driving while intoxicated overnight while conducting a sobriety checkpoint on Freeport Road in O'Hara.
Task force officers, working with the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration Checkpoint Strike Force, stopped 323 vehicles between 11 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. today. They administered field sobriety tests to 12 drivers.
Officers also made six arrests for possession of a controlled substance, one arrest for public intoxication and one arrest of a wanted person for whom a warrant had been issued. They issued one citation for driving with a suspended license and three citations each for vehicle code and seatbelt violations.
The North Hills DUI Task Force includes officers from the Etna, Indiana Township, Northern Regional, O'Hara, Ross, Shaler, West Deer and West View police departments.
