A Pittsburgh police officer was injured when his police car collided with an ambulance while responding to a call Sunday afternoon.
The accident occurred at South Aiken and Friendship avenues in the Friendship section of the city shortly before 5 p.m. The officer was en route to a police call in Homewood at the time of the accident, according to emergency dispatch. Police did not release information on the cause.
The injured officer, who was not identified, was taken to UPMC Mercy. His condition was not released Sunday night. It was not known whether the ambulance driver was injured and whether a patient was being transported in the ambulance.
The police vehicle was heavily damaged in the crash.
The intersection was closed for several hours while police investigated.
