More than 2,000 marijuana plants seized in Somerset County
Tuesday, July 27, 2010

State police in Somerset County seized more than 2,000 marijuana plants last week after a private landowner found what he believed to be a sizeable growing operation.

The man led troopers to the middle of an 1,800 acre area, a site accessible only on quads, heavily wooded with portions of cleared trees. There, they found marijuana plants growing in plastic cups, surrounded by marijuana plants growing in the ground.

Near these areas, state police said, were what appeared to be two separate campsites. A state police helicopter examined the site but couldn't find any other "grow areas."

They seized 2,376 plants and about 1,500 cups but have made no arrests.
