An 11-year-old boy was fatally shot in rural Westmoreland County this evening, a county dispatch supervisor said.

Someone called 911 at around 6:50 p.m. sounding "hysterical" and saying that the boy had been shot in the head on Darlington Road in Ligonier Township, the supervisor said.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ligonier Township Police are investigating.
