The St. Louis Rams have asked for permission from the Steelers to talk to Omar Khan about their general manager's job. Khan, 35, has been an executive with the Steelers and their chief contract negotiator the past 11 years. (Today)
The Jets have maintained Santonio Holmes was going to return next season despite his highly publicized rift with quarterback Mark Sanchez. Since Holmes was on the Jets' roster Wednesday -- two days after the start of the NFL's 2012 waiver wire period -- $7.5 million of the wide receiver's 2013 salary is now fully guaranteed. (Today)

Steelers tight end Weslye Saunders has been suspended without pay for the first four games of the 2012 season for violating the NFL's policy on performance enhancing substances. Saunders, an undrafted rookie in 2011, is eligible to participate in all preseason games and practices before his suspension begins Sept. 1.
